I am often asked how the PRINCE2 Processes "speak" to each other. My following summary will give you a new insite to PRINCE2 Processes, and how they work together.....Enjoy!!

It would be helpful if you thought of Processes as "Toolkits" or "Toolboxes" The Processes are used when they are needed - some once per project, some re-used several times, and one, Directing a Project, is used continuously.

My Brand New Prince2: 2009 Primer is just weeks away from being released and Boy! am I excited..

I've finished creating a massive 320 full-colour PowerPoint Slides and I am halfway through recording the full-motion videos.

Phew!!

Just got back to Spain from a hectic tour of Prince2 training events in the UK. There's no doubt the wind of change is getting to companies and their professional staff.

Product Based Planning (PBP) is used within the Planning Process (PL2). And the Planning Process is used whenever a “real” Plan is needed – these are:

Project Plan
Stage Plan
Optional Team Plan
Exception Plan if needed

All other plans are really strategies (Project Quality Plan, Configuration Management Plan, Communication Plan) The Post Project Review Plan does not need PBP as it is just a schedule, measurements, and resources showing how the Business Case benefits are to be measured, tracked, and eventually realized.

I started out as a professional engineer and moved into project management in my late twenties. So I have a quarter of a century of experience in that field.

Of course, that doesn't make me automatically an "expert" - but it does give me a wealth of stuff that can help you "Fast-Track" and get good - in a fraction of the time that it took me!

Taking the World View, I would say that project management is split into two camps - Europe and the USA. that's not to discount other countries - far from it, but to acknowledge the main sources of "Bodies of Knowledge" (BoK).

I intend to create a major section on this site covering PRICE2 in all its aspects. Pressure of work right now will mean that articles will have to gradually appear as time permits.

For now - here is the basic definition - but watch this space!

PRINCE®, which stands for Projects in Controlled Environments, is a project management method covering the organisation, management and control of projects. PRINCE® was first developed by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA), now part of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), in 1989 as a UK Government standard for IT project management.
