Funny thing computers, they start out as pristine towers of high-tech...and end up as a pile-of-files glory hole. It's normally about this time that they start to slow down due to all the junk you've collected, and you start thinking about getting a new one...

So there I was a few days ago, trying to stop the rot by having a bit of a tidy up (aren't those 'duplicate file finder' applications cool!). When I came across an old JPG that a delegate had taken of my PRINCE2 Roadmap while I was delivering one of my training seminars. Okay, so it was hand-drawn live and would not win any prizes for neatness, but delegates usually tell me later that it was one of the most useful and important sessions in the course.

So I've spent the last few hours making a proper PDF out of it, and added my talkthrough text - the result is quite a useful PRINCE2 preparation product. And you can have it for FREE!

My Brand New Prince2: 2009 Primer is just weeks away from being released and Boy! am I excited..

Just got back to Spain from a hectic tour of Prince2 training events in the UK. There's no doubt the wind of change is getting to companies and their professional staff.

Product Based Planning (PBP) is used within the Planning Process (PL2). And the Planning Process is used whenever a “real” Plan is needed – these are: 

1. Project Plan
2. Stage Plan
3. Optional Team Plan
4. Exception Plan if needed

All other plans are really strategies (Project Quality Plan, Configuration Management Plan, Communication Plan) The Post Project Review Plan does not need PBP as it is just a schedule, measurements, and resources showing how the Business Case benefits are to be measured, tracked, and eventually realized.

I started out as a professional engineer and moved into project management in my late twenties. So I have a quarter of a century of experience in that field.

Of course, that doesn't make me automatically an "expert" - but it does give me a wealth of stuff that can help you "Fast-Track" and get good - in a fraction of the time that it took me!

Taking the World View, I would say that project management is split into two camps - Europe and the USA. that's not to discount other countries - far from it, but to acknowledge the main sources of "Bodies of Knowledge" (BoK).

I intend to create a major section on this site covering PRICE2 in all its aspects. Pressure of work right now will mean that articles will have to gradually appear as time permits.

PRINCE®, which stands for Projects in Controlled Environments, is a project management method covering the organisation, management and control of projects. PRINCE® was first developed by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA), now part of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), in 1989 as a UK Government standard for IT project management.
