And So Has My Biggest Masterclass Update Yet
If you’ve been following the project management world recently, you’ll already know that PMI has introduced a completely updated PMP examination. Like every major syllabus revision, it has created a mixture of excitement, uncertainty and, if I’m honest, a little confusion.
Almost every week someone asks me the same question.
“Dave, when will your PMP Masterclass be updated?”
The answer is simple.
I’m already working on it.
In fact, by the time you’re reading this article, much of the planning work is already well underway.
Whenever PMI updates the PMP syllabus, my first instinct has never been to rush out a quick update simply so I can claim the course is “2026 Ready.” That might work as a marketing strategy, but it has never been my approach.
My responsibility is much greater than that.
Thousands of students place their trust in my training. They deserve a course that explains not only what PMI now expects you to know, but why those changes matter to real project managers working in today’s organisations.
That takes time.
And it deserves to be done properly.
Why PMI Has Updated the New PMP Exam
One thing that has really encouraged me as I’ve begun studying the new Examination Content Outline is that PMI hasn’t thrown project management out of the window. Quite the opposite. The foundations remain remarkably familiar. Good planning still matters. Risk management still matters. Leadership still matters. Stakeholder engagement still matters.
What has changed is the world around those fundamentals.
The Biggest Changes in the PMP 2026 Syllabus
Projects today are expected to deliver far more than simply finishing on time and within budget. Organisations now expect projects to generate measurable business value. Project managers are increasingly working with artificial intelligence tools. Sustainability has become part of everyday decision making. Governance has taken on greater importance. Business strategy is no longer something that happens in the boardroom while project managers simply deliver the work.
Today’s project manager has become a genuine business leader.
One reassuring discovery during my early research is that PMI has not abandoned the core disciplines that have always made successful project managers successful. Planning, scheduling, risk management, stakeholder engagement and leadership remain at the heart of the profession. The new PMP syllabus simply places those skills into a broader business context where value, strategy and technology now play a much greater role.
That shift is reflected throughout the new PMP examination. PMI has significantly increased the importance of Business Environment, recognising that successful project managers must understand why projects exist, not simply how to manage them. Artificial intelligence, value delivery, sustainability and strategic alignment are now woven throughout the syllabus because they are becoming part of everyday project life.
Why I’m Not Starting My PMP Masterclass from Scratch
As I’ve been analyzing the new syllabus, something else has become very clear.
This is not a case of throwing away hundreds of existing lessons and starting again.
Far from it.
One of the strengths of my current PMP Masterclass is that it already teaches the enduring principles that continue to underpin professional project management. Those principles have not suddenly become obsolete because the calendar changed.
Instead, my task is to identify exactly where PMI has expanded its expectations and build new learning around those areas.
That actually excites me.
Rather than replacing good teaching, I have the opportunity to make the course even stronger by introducing entirely new sections that reflect how project management is evolving across the world.
Artificial Intelligence Is Becoming Part of Modern Project Management
Artificial intelligence is an obvious example.
You can hardly open LinkedIn these days without somebody claiming AI will replace project managers. Personally, I don’t believe that for one moment.
What I do believe is that AI will increasingly become another professional tool in the hands of capable project managers.
Just as spreadsheets never replaced accountants, AI will not replace experienced project leaders. It will help them make better decisions, analyze information more quickly and remove much of the routine administration that consumes valuable time.
That deserves proper explanation.
It deserves practical demonstrations.
And it certainly deserves far more than a couple of extra PowerPoint slides.
The same applies to sustainability, governance and business value. These are not fashionable buzzwords that can simply be added as another chapter. They represent a different way of thinking about projects, and I want every student who joins my Masterclass to understand how these ideas influence real project decisions every single day.

After many years of teaching PMP, it’s refreshing to see the profession continue to evolve. Every syllabus update gives us an opportunity not simply to teach new material, but to rethink how we prepare project managers for the challenges they’ll actually face.
That has always been my goal.
