Online Courses or Classroom Courses?

Online Courses or Classroom Courses?

I have been teaching PRINCE2 in classrooms worldwide week after week. I was flying/driving all over Europe, Africa, the Middle and Far East, and the USA, from the east coast to the west coast.

I have been doing that since 1998. I receive great reviews – not least for my ability to break complex topics into manageable bite-sized chunks, plus classroom energy and tenacity.

Online Courses or Classroom Courses?

Here I am way back in 2010, in South Africa at the back of class helping get a new PRINCE2 Trainer Accredited.

Don’t worry, he Passed!

Then along came broadband. Fast Internet really kickstarted the Online Courses Era.

Here was the answer to a new question “Online Courses or Classroom Courses?”

I could put my knowledge skills and PRINCE2 exam know-how into good use.

Sure, I had to teach myself how to create a great website (My business partner and webmaster, Nick, has now done this FAR better than I ever could).

So I got to work. By this time, I had a great set of results-oriented PRINCE2 training material, so I tailored it to work with Online learning, converting all my physical slides into Online Courses, and I was getting even better pass marks than classroom training.

Why?

Thankfully, it had nothing to do with my abilities. Instead, it was due to students having to train in a high learning curve and cramped classroom. Their boss allowed them just 5 days off work to cram PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner into their heads.

Once upon a time, Online courses were the inferior choice, but this is no longer the case, as well-formed, quality online courses are better than classroom courses.

How come?

Take me, Dave Litten – Accredited PRINCE2 Trainer: Can you imagine the energy and focus needed to deliver a quality course for 8 hours daily?  You are human, you get tired or have distractions, impacting the course.

  • In stark contrast, preparing for an eLearning class, I now spend three to six months perfecting the course until it’s just how I want it.
  • If I lose focus, I stop working, take my dogs for a walk, or relax for an hour.
  • Since I have complete control over the lesson training material or video editing, if I’m not satisfied with a lesson, I rerecord it until it meets my high standards.

So what about my classroom students? They are, after all, my customers.

  • They had cramped classrooms
  • Stiff, uncomfortable chairs from 9 to 5). Wouldn’t they like to stand up and take a quick stretch?
  • They must struggle the whole day to keep themselves focused on intense PRINCE2 topics.
  • Their mobile phone is on mute, and have rushed conversations during breaktime, trying to solve work situations in just five minutes. High-stress calls and guilt do little for learning and concentration, and worse, don’t allow you to take a breather.
  • To cram the whole course in, classroom courses set evening work often well into the night, not sleeping well impacts the next day training sessions
  • What about questions being asked by fellow students that they may already understand? For them, its a disruption to their learning.

Then, there is Online Learning

Isn’t it better to take the course at your own pace, such as during lunchtime, evenings, or weekends? Even a spare 30 minutes on a mini topic keeps the PRINCE2 Methodology center stage and you in the zone.

Whatever suits your work or personal life.

You can always go back and retake a specific lesson if needed.

Projex Academy offers demo lessons so you can be confident your time and money will be well spent.
